AMY JACOBS - SOUTH EAST TRACK CHAMPION
Amy has had recent success in the U16 girls category at a competition at Herne Hill Velodrome in London (the original 1948 Olympic arena) and was successful in becoming the South East Track Champion.
She has also been selected for the Youth School Games and the
Inter-Regional Track Championships, again which will see her race as a South East rider against other National level competitors at the two events in September. Just prior to that she has the National circuit and track
championships to contest, last year she won Silver medal at the track so we hope further success this year in her new age category.
Despite knock backs and injuries Amy has been able to achieve this success and she is showing great strength and determination to make a career in
cycling. Well done Amy! By Sally Page - Coach VC Jubilee Youth Development Cycling Club

Angmering Golden Girls
The culmination of hard training and great team work resulted in a gold medal in the 4 x 100m relay for four Under 15 Sussex sprinters at the English Schools Championships held at Birmingham Alexander Stadium on Friday and Saturday. Two of the team, Georgina Hook (Yr 9) and Sophie Spinner (Yr 8) were from Angmering School.
The girls had all been selected to represent Sussex for the 4 x 100m Junior Girls relay due to their domination at local athletics competitions competing for Worthing Harriers.
At Birmingham, they were against sixteen of the best relay teams in the Country and again showed their perfected technique to win their semi final race on Friday in a blistering time of 49.08 seconds to set a new Sussex County Relay record.
Georgina and Sophie then stepped up to the added pressure of the relay finals televised live on SKY Sports on the Saturday afternoon.
In front of a screaming crowd and people at home watching on tv, they stormed home beating their semi final record time set the day previously in a new County Under 17 and Under 15 girls 4x100m Relay in a time of 48.79 seconds to pick up the gold medal. This record was last set in 1989 and previously 50.3 seconds.
The silver and bronze medals went to Humberside and Surrey with times 48.93 and 49.00 secs respectively.
Earlier in the championships both girls had been selected to compete in their individual events, Georgie in the 100m and Sophie the 200m. They were up against the best 32 sprinters in the country. First there were heats, then semi-finals before the final. Sophie managed to get through to the 200m semi finals running 26.17 seconds and just missed getting into the final by two tenths of a second and came fifth in her heat. Georgie was in one of the fastest heats in her 100m race and came seventh with a time of 13.20 seconds. Just two tenths faster would have secured her a place in the semi-finals.
Both girls should be proud to have been selected to run for their County at English Schools and for their fantastic gold medal achievement in the relay.
The girls are due to race again at this weekends National Young Athletics League meeting held at Worthing where they should again show their dominance at their home venue.

NATIONAL SPORTS WEEK
China Win Angmering Olympics
The Angmering Sports College Olympic Sports day took place on a dry bright Tuesday amidst national sports week. Angmering paid homage to the 2012 Olympics by creating its own! With the national flags fluttering, and the sun shining, all tutor groups were divided into nine countries and students were given dual nationality and participated in at least one individual athletics event and a relay with points counting towards the
overall medals table. The students showed many of the Olympic values that they had previously pledged such as Respect, Excellence, Friendship, Determination, Inspiration, Courage and Equality, along with national pride in the way of enthusiastic support and face paints of the various flags. The build up to 2012 is underway at Angmering!
There was also a Paralympic event for LNC students with the points gained being vital in the final overall
positions.
There were two new school all time records set (Josephine Sunderland in the 800M and Josephine Pedley in the 200M) and thirteen new Sports College records. Every winner set a new Olympic record, as it was the first year that our Olympics had taken place. In the afternoon relays took place in front of the whole school and there was a closing ceremony where the top three nations were invited onto the victory podium.

ANGMERING CLUSTER GIFTED & TALENTED DAY
Students from the Angmering Cluster came up to the Sports College during National School Sports Week to take part in a Gifted and Talented PE & Dance Day.Coaches came in to lead Trampolining, Ultimate Frisbee,
Tri-Golf, Handball, Multi-skills, Athletics and Gymnastics activities for years 2 to 5. Year 6 students were given a day’s intensive Basketball with community coach Mark Davies, and two groups of dancers worked with Julie Fox to produce some excellent performances at the end of their sessions.
Staff from the primary schools were invited up to gain an insight into the work undertaken at the secondary school and also to gain further knowledge about the activities from the coaches. It was also a fine opportunity to see their top performers in activities they were used to and a range of new ones.
The students worked exceptionally hard throughout the day, and were provided with several pathways to continue the activities. Teamwork, fitness, skill development and tactical awareness were all areas that were touched up during the sessions. All the athletes went home tired, with certificates in hand and happy with their gifted and talented performances.
Many thanks to Pippa Couch (Gymnastics), Alan Denyer (Athletics), Julie Fox (Dance), Alice Tytherleigh (Trampoline), Jon Mills (Multi-skills) and Mark Davies (Basketball|) for their support and hard work throughout the day.
